An excellent thrill play of the moment has a sort of modern banquo in it.
And the audience is properly frozen.
In the immediate past, the attitude has been rather, "all very well for Shakespeare in his superstitious time!"
The fact remains that some of our best authors' best plays have had ghosts in them.

And does not a ghost appear in the immortal drama of Mr. Punch?
It is Mr. Noel Coward's turn to givr us an epigrammatic, rather cynical young ghost!
