Implied textCartoons: Dropping the Pilot by Sir John Tenniel published in Punch 29 March 1890.
NotesThe cartoon refers to the downfall of the Turkish Sultan, Abdul Hamid II, who was unanimously voted out by both houses of parliament which he had been forced to create in the previous year (1908). He was accused by his brother, Mahmud Reshad, of squandering the Ottaman Empire's wealth and breaking its laws. The cartoon takes its influence from Sir John Tenniel's famous 'Punch' cartoon of the same name of 29 March 1890, referring to Kaiser Wilhelm's forcing out of Bismarck.
