NotesNews: 12 Dec: The Government announced a package of subsidies totalling £175m a year and
their decision to write off the National Coal Board deficit of £475m. News: 15 Dec: Apollo 17 was
the last of the American spacecraft to land on the moon. Whilst on the moon astronaut Captain
Cernan picked up a rock and said: "We'd like to share pieces of this rock with many countries of
this world in the hope this will be a symbol of what our feeling are, what the feelings of the
Apollo programme are, and a symbol of mankind that we can live in peace and harmony in the
future".
