NotesNews : President Yeltsin defied doctors' orders to rest and looked almost his old robust self during a brief visit to the Kremlin yesterday. "You won't even let me sneeze," he said after unexpectedly arriving for work still suffering from what has variously been described as "a cold" or "bronchitis". Television pictures of him meeting senior ministers showed the Russian leader looking pale, but improved. He shook hands with his guests and negotiated the few steps from his office door to a conference table with no problems. He then sat smiling and joking at their expense. It was a striking improvement on his performance to Central Asia earlier in the week when he almost toppled over, was overcome by a coughing fit and became incoherent on several occasions.
