NotesNews: Jonathan Aitken, the disgraced former cabinet minister, faces the threat of imprisonment for perjury and perverting the course of justice after abandoning his libel trial against The Guardian and Granada Television, when he overwhelming evidence proved he had been lying. The television programme shown on television connected Aitken with Saudi Arabian arms dealers. The Guardian provided proof that he had stayed at the Ritz hotel in Paris at the expense of Mohamed Al Fayed. He encouraged his wife, Lolicia and daughter, Victoria to lie for him.
