January 1969: In Place of Strife, a white paper written by Barbara
Castle, which proposed a cooling-off period before strikes could take
place. Workers who ignored the cooling-off period and stayed out on
strike were liable to prosecution, fines and imprisonment.
NotesNews:- Baroness Castle of Blackburn took to the platform to a standing ovation, in her fight for restoration of a link between pensions and earnings, at the Labour Party Conference.
