NotesArtwork not dated : Date estimate from news News : It is twenty years ago today since Richard Nixon told Americans that he was no quitter before announcing the most famous resignation in history, Watergate left Americans quick to suspect the worst of their leaders, had Nixon not set in motion an elobarte cover up of the burglary on June 17 at the Democrat party headquarters, President Clinton would almost certainly not still be suffering the humiliation of the Whitewater affair. Coming at the end of two weeks of congressional hearings on Whitewater, the Watergate resignatiuon anniversary has prompted inevitable comparisons. Unlike Watergate, Whitewater is almost incomprehensible to most Americans. But it has become a catch all metaphor for widesprad unease about the private Clinton.
