NotesArtwork not dated, date estimated from news. News : Britain and Russia sealed their closer relationship yesterday by agreeing to stop targeting each other with nuclear missiles from May. Under a deal signed after two and a half hours of Kremlin talks between John Major and President Yeltsin, each countrys guidance system will be re-programmed so that it no longer automatically aims at the other. In a second development away from the confrontation of the Cold War, armed forces of the two countries are to have joint exercises to improve their ability to work together on peacekeeping missions. The two moves are also designed to boost Mr Yeltsin in his domestic struggle with Vladimir Zhrinovsky, the far-right leader who has conjured up a vision of a west invariably hostile to Russia.
