News: 8 Mar: After the second Cabinet meeting Mr Heath and his colleagues had still not settled on the contents and timing of a political initiative to reconcile the Protestant majority and the Roman Catholic minority in Northern Ireland. After Mr Maudling, Home Secretary, had reported to the Commons on 11 explosions in Northern Ireland during the last couple of days, opposition backbenchers urged an early announcement of a government move.
