NotesOn Jan 30, the 10th anniversary of Hitler's accession to power - which was not celebrated, as in former years by the display of flags or other demonstrations owing to the situation on the Eastern Front - Goering made the following broadcast to the German people from the Ceremonial Hall of the Air Ministry in Berlin.... Hitler, who had spoken every Jan. 30th except in 1938 (at the time of the High Command crisis and Field-Marshal von Blomberg's resignation), did not address the German people in person, it being explained that he could not leave the front. Instead the following proclamation by Hitler was broadcast by Goebbels: ... "In this war there will be neither victor nor vanquished, but only those who survive and those who are destroyed. The National-Socialist State will continue the struggle with the fanaticism which our movement had from its birth. On June 30, 1942 I said that any weakling could take victories - only strong men could take the blows of fate. Last winter the Jews in the plutocracies thought they saw the collapse of the German Army. That did not happen. This winter they hope for the same thing. But they will see that the strength of the National-Socialist idea is greater than their desire. ... [Keesing's Contemporary Archives p.5584]
