The German High Command announced that as the French naval chiefs at Toulon had "given a solemn declaration that the French warships will defend themselves against any attack from the Anglo-Saxon powers, the Fuhrer and the Duce have given orders to desist from occupying the military zone of Toulon with German and Italian troops"....
