NotesAugust 11: Russia: Against heavy odds the Russian reargurad in the N.# Caucasus continued to fight stubbornly, though it appeared that the situation in the W. Kuban had become irretrievable owing to the enemy's numerical and mechanical superiority and the speed of his advance; heavy defensive fighting took place in the areas of Maikop, Krasnodar and Cherkessk (70 miles S.E. of Armavir), the enemy losing 19 tanks and 700 men killed in action at Krasnodar. In the battle for Stalingrad the Germans, throwing in reserves of tanks, planes and infantry, made desperate but unsusccessful efforts to break the Russian front; ... He wanted to establish a New Order of absolute rule in Europe and pursued a policy of seizing land by force for the Aryan people.
