Implied textSpeeches: "This would, at a stroke, reduce the rise in prices, increase production and reduce unemployment" Part of the prepared text of a speech to be given by Ted Heath on proposals to reduce taxation in1970. The sentence was never delivered in the speech but was distributed to journalists and highlighted in press reports.
NotesNews: 9 Mar: The Government announced measures to keep down the prices of some basic foods. Milk was to be reduced by half a pence and sugar prices were to be cut eventually by 2p a 2lb bag. Potatoe supplies would be manipulated on the market to keep retail prices at the present level.
News: 10 Mar: The Prime Minister had a meeting with 16 leading members of the TUC at 10 Downing Street. Mr George Smith, chairman of the TUC , acknowledged the usefulness of the meeting.
