31 Tsar Boris saw Hitler at the latter's headquarters at Hitler's request; the communique
merely declared that the conversations took place "in the spirit of the traditional
German-Bulgar friendship", but it was officially admitted in Sofia that defensive plans
were discussed against a possible Allied landing in the Balkans. It was reported that the
construction of defence zones on the Aegean and Black Sea coasts, and on the Turkish

Eastern Front: ... On the Donetz, the Germans made another unsuccessful attack on the
Russian bridgehead at Chuguyev. Bitter hand-to-hand fighting raged on the Kuban front,
where Lt. Gen. Maslennikov's troops occupied an important strongpoint inside the enemy's
defensive system (a Russian penetration on one sector was admitted in Berlin); the Germans
lost 1,000 men and 21 tanks in violent but fruitless counter-attacks. ... [Keesing's

He served as German chancellor from 1933-1945 and head of state (Fuhrer) from 1934-1945. He established a single-party dictatorship based on the totalitarian and autocratic ideals of national socialism. He gained support for his views on German nationalism, anti-Semitism, anti-capitalism and anti-communism through his impassioned speeches and propaganda. He wanted to establish a New Order of absolute rule in Europe and pursued a policy of seizing land by force for the Aryan people.
