NotesNews: ...The German occupation of the "Vichy"
zone was closely followed by the same popular resistance as had so long been shown in the
occupied zone. On Nov. 29 a pro-German demonstration by the Legion in Lyon was broken up by
indignant crowds and German troops sent to "restore order" abused; on Dec. 1 an attack on a
German soldier in that city led to the seizure of 100 hostages taken indiscriminately by the
Germans ... on Dec. 28 Vichy radio announced that 157 "terrorists and de Gaullists" had been
arrested in Paris and 134 others elsewhere in France in a big police round-up ...... [Keesing's
