Keesing's Contemporary Archives; India - Congress Party - Arrest and sentence of four years' imprisonment on Mr Nehru... Mr Jawaharlal Nehru, after a conference with Mr Gandhi at Wardha on Oct 30 was arrested on Oct 31 while returning to Allahabad, and charged under the Defence of India Rules with making speeches at Gorakhpur and elsewhere intended to hinder the prosecution of the war, to discourage voluntary war contribution, and to prepare the way for mass satyagraha. Sentence of one year and four months' rigourous imprisonment on each of three counts the turns to run consecutively, was passed on Nov. 5. ... [p.4390]
