NotesNews: Mar. 7: Doctors today launched a one million pound fighting fund to oppose plans for a national health service, and warned that they might refuse to cooperate. The British Medical Association said that it had a duty to its 50,000 members to back any individual doctors who might suffer financially, and to defend the profession. It has already recieved about 100,000 pounds in donations towards the campaign costs. A BMA statement said: "Should the Government prove pbdurate and refuse to modigy proposals in the Bill, wihc the profession might consider to strike at the essentail freedoms of medicine, the doctors of thsi country might have to decide not to work in the new service."
