NotesNotes: Hill was Secretary of the British Medical Association. In February 1944 the
government published a white paper entitled "A National Health Service". Hill, and the BMA,
agreed in principle, but objected to a state salaried scheme as he believed it would mark the end
of (lucrative) private practice.
