NotesNews: 10 May: Dutch and Belgians fall to Blitzkrieg. There was widespread German bombing of airfields, communications and military strong-points during the night, and airborne troops began taking off before dawn. Along a front of 150 miles well-armed troops accompanied by light artillery, sprang forward. Vital bridges and airfields were captured before the Dutch could go into action. The cartoon is a reference to the home of the exiled Kaiser, who lived in Doorn from 1918 to his death in 1941.
