NotesDecember 31: Eastern Front: On the front S.W. of Stalingrad, where the enemy were in full retreat along the railway from Kotelnikovo, General Vatutin's forces captured Zimovniki, 50 miles down the line towards Saldk, in a great sweep by the Russian left wing; a number of small villages were also recaptured, 700 prisoners taken, and much booty, including a quantity of anti-tank guns, seized. On the Middle Don front the Russians recaptured Nizhne-Chirskaya (on the W. bank of the Don 65 miles S.W. of Stalingrad) and the town and station of Oblivskaya (40 miles farther W.) where 3,000 Soviet civilians forced to work for the Germans were liberated; ... He wanted to establish a New Order of absolute rule in Europe and pursued a policy of seizing land by force for the Aryan people.
