NotesMake Way Exhibition Caption: The emphasis in 1945 on nationalisation was on considerations of efficiency with plans for a national policy of investment and re-equipment. The Transport Act of 1947 nationalised the railways and took road haulage into public ownership. The objective behind this idea of an integrated system of road and rail transport was to avoid duplication. Although a controversial issue, the Act passed onto the Statue book on 13th March 1946.
