NotesThe British received a severe set-back to hopes for revival when the Office of Price Administration in the US closed down and virtually all Smerican price controls were removed. To the British the sharp rise in prices in the US meant a rapid shrinkage in the real value of their loan from America; greater difficulty in meeting their obligations to release current sterling from control; a reversal of progress towards balancing their international accounts; and a heavy jolt to their plans for full employment, basic to British policy.
