NotesNews: April 12: ... North Africa: The Eighth Army, after an 80-mile advance from Sfax, occupied Susa (Sousse), the third port in Tunisia, without opposition; the enemy had destroyed all port installations and the electricity and water supply services before evacuating. ... It was reported from the front that following the fall of Susa, Rommel's and von Arnim's forces were preparing for a last stand in the 100-mile arc covering Tunis and Bizerta mountainous country providing strong natural defences, and that heavy fighting could be expected before the enemy were finally ejected from Africa...
