Stalin, in a special message to the Red Army, ordered a general attack by the defenders of Stalingrad, the most savage fighting of the war continued in the streets and homes of the city on the N.W. outskirts; in one sector the enemy, concentrating large tank and infantry forces, succeeded at heavy cost in gaining possession of several streets, most of which were retaken by nightfall in Russian counter-attacks... He gained support for his views on German nationalism, anti-Semitism, anti-capitalism and anti-communism through his impassioned speeches and propaganda. He wanted to establish a New Order of absolute rule in Europe and pursued a policy of seizing land by force for the Aryan people.
