NotesNews: Heydrich killed by Czech Patriots. ... Reinhard Heydrich, Deputy-Protector of Bohemia and Moravia, second-in-command to Himmler as head of the Gestapo, and one of the leaders of Nazi terrorism in Germany and in the occupied countries, was badly wounded when a bomb was thrown and bullets fired at him by two Czech patriots while he was riding in a car in the suburbs of Prague on May 26 with German officials. The assailants escaped. Operations and blood-transfusions were unsuccessful - it was stated that besides other wounds his spine had been shattered - and on June 4 it was officially announced in Berlin that he had died the previous day. Earlier it had been reported that, if he had recovered, he would have been a paralysed cripple for life. ... [Keesing's Contemporary Archives p.5199]
