NotesAugust 27. Air Operations (Europe). R.A.F. bombers attacked a number of objectives in Germany, Italy, and enemy-occupied France in night attacks. ... Details of the success attending R.a.F. operations over Germany were published in London on this date, indicating that the object of British air operation in hindering the enemy's production of aircraft, dislocating transport, and curtailing supplies of oil, had been achieved to a very satisfactory degree. ... Enemy air activity by day over Britain was very slight. Several small formations appeared over the Channel coast, but only few aircraft penetrated inland and the only bombs dropped were on the foreshore of the Isle of Wight, which caused no damage or casualties. Night raids again consisted of a number of dispersed and indiscriminate bombing attacks over widespread areas. In the London area high explosive and incendiary bombs were dropped in several districts but caused very little damage and no serious casualties. ... [Keesing's Contemporary Archives p.4209]
