Person DepictedElizabeth II (1926-); Queen of Great Britain,
NotesNews: "... Earlier, the Queen attended a Cabinet meeting for the first time. As she was introduced to ministers, she was overheard telling George Osborne about her visit last week to the Bank of England's gold vault, saying that "regrettably" some of the bars "don't belong to us". The Chancellor replied: "Some of them were sold, but we've still got some left." David Cameron told the Queen that he believed the last time a monarch had sat in on a Cabinet meeting was in 1781, during the American War of Independence, when George III was a visitor. Sitting in the chair normally occupied by the Prime Minister, though further back from the table, the Queen spoke twice during her 25-minute visit. During discussions on the next Queen's Speech, she suggested it should be "shorter, rather than longer" and wished ministers a happy Christmas. .... " Gordon Rayner, Daily Telegraph
