NotesNews: "The Queen and the rest of the Royal Family cost each person in Britain about 52p in the last financial year, according to Buckingham Palace accounts published yesterday. Taxpayer funding for the royals rose by 200,000 pounds to 32.3million in the year to April, although the real bill is estimated to be at least 200million with security and other costs that are not published. Sir Alan Reid, Keeper of the Privy Purse, said the Queen's spending had reduced by 26 per cent in real terms over the last three years from 36million in 2009, surpassing a Government target to reduce public expenditure by 25 per cent in four years. He said: "The Queen was very keen that we were seen to play our part in that. "The decrease is due mainly to the continuation of a pay freeze, increased income generation, and the deferral of property maintenance expenditure." But the report also showed some startling flight costs in a 6.1million pound bill for official royal travel - 100,000 pounds up on the previous year. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge spent 51,410 pounds on one-way business class tickets for themselves and seven aides from Los Angeles to London at the end of their first overseas tour. ...
