Stop! One has just conveniently remembered he's innocent!
Person DepictedElizabeth II (1926-); Queen of Great Britain,
NotesNews: 3 Nov: If taxpayers had not been forced to bankroll the legal farce of Regina v Burrell to the tune of millions, they would be rolling around in the aisles rather than cursing the participants in the trial of Paul Burrell, the former butler to Diana, Princess of Wales. A case that should never have come to court exposed mindboggling incompetence by the police, the Crown Prosecution Service and palace officials. Even Mr Burrell cannot escape criticism, however laudable his discretion. If he had revealed the fact that he had told the Queen he had taken some of Princess Diana's documents, none of this fiasco need have happened. But perhaps the biggest loser this weekend is the Queen herself. Her belated intervention has launched more conspiracy theories than Nostradamus and brought her constitutional role into question.
