NotesNews: 12 Feb: The British Gas Corporation warned consumers of "fatal repercussions" unless they observed official advice during the gas workers' industrial action. The industrial action may affect consumers of manufactured town gas, which was supplied to five million homes. Natural gas consumers were unlike to be affected.
News: 12 Feb: Princess Anne arrived in Ethiopia on a 12-day visit and made an informal visit to the Soviet destroyer Skrytny at Massawa harbour, to award the naval team a prize in the tug-of-war competition.
News: 12 Feb: Central bank chiefs of the leading industrial nations met in Switzerland and set about the problem of how best to put an end to wild currency speculation, and to find a clear way out of the monetary crisis. Announcements were made that the London, Paris, Tokyo and West German foreign exchange markets would not be open tomorrow.
