NotesNews: 22 Jan: Ministry of Defence officials and naval officers were meeting trawler skippers and vessel owners at Hull to draw up plans for using the 1,100-ton super-tug Statesman, which was registered under a Liberian flat, but was chartered by a company in Britain, to thwart Icelandic gunboat activity. An Icelandic patrol vessel cut both trawl wires of the West German trawler Sirius, it said the trawler had been fishing 12 miles inside the 50-mile fisheries limit.
