NotesNews: 1 Nov: The TUC General Council was meeting to respond to the Government's proposal to either accept a totally voluntary policy on prices and incomes, or whether it was prepared to accept a voluntary plan policed by back-up legislation covering both prices and incomes. The militant side of the council, would rally behind Mr Hugh Scanlon, president of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers, who would insist there could be no possible agreement on the terms of the government alternatives.
