NotesNews: 21 Jun: Mr. Heath, accused Labour of trying to destroy sterling and denounced Mr Healey in the Commons for predicting that the pound would be devalued.
News: 24 Jun: The Government allowed the pound to float freely against other currencies, after a week of heavy speculation against sterling. In London and many other centres foreign exchange markets were closed, and would not open until Tuesday. The Treasury announced that exchange controls were being extended to sterling area investment.
