NotesNews: 25 May: President Nixon and Mr Kosygin, the Soviet Prime Minister, signed an agreement on space cooperation proclaiming a commitment by the two countries to carry out a docking of spacecraft in 1975.
News: 27 May: A treaty was signed between the United States and the Soviet Union on the limitation of anti-ballistic missile systems. The treaty limited each superpower to 200 defensive nuclear missiles. They also signed a five-year interim agreement freezing the number of offensive strategic nuclear weapons and the number of nuclear-armed submarines.
