NotesNews: 19 Apr: Mr Macmillan said that if by tomorrow the Government could not be sure that the rail unions were instructing their members to suspend their industrial action, the Government would apply to the National Industrial Relations Court for a restraining order (cooling off) under the Industrial Relations Act. The purpose of the Government's application would be: to protect the public and to restore movement of essential supplies; to allow any discussions which may take place with the board to continue in a proper atmosphere.
