NotesNews: 30 July: Mr Davies reported to the House on the advisory committees findings on the Upper Clyde Shipbuilders. He said that as organised on the Labour Government's initiative in 1967 it was "doomed from the start as a result of the faulty concept of structure within which it was organised; the burden of eventual loss with which it was saddled; and the inadequate management with which it was provided". They concluded that any continuation of the UCS in its present form would be unjustified.
