NotesNews: 17 July: President Nixon announced he would visit China to discuss the
normalisation of relations. A strong protest was delivered by the Nationalist Chinese
Government in Formosa. Expectations that the Peking Government might gain admission to the
UN hardened among UN diplomats following Nixon's announcement.
News: 22 July: Lord Caradon told the Family Planning Association’s annual conference that the world population increase threatened to degrade and dividethe world. “If we bring children into the world without giving them some reasonable expectations of survival and some hope of human dignity, it will be a waste, a criminal waste, an utterly unforgivable waste of the most precious thing in the world, the potentiality of the human personality.”
