NotesNews; 17 May: A review of European policy was made by Mr Heath at a special meeting at Chequers, attended by Mr Christopher Soames, British Ambassador in Paris, and Mr Geoffrey Rippon, Britain's chief negotiator at the talks in Brussels. News: 18 May: Speaking in The Hague Enoch Powell suggested that Mr Heath tell M. Pompidou, at their meeting in Paris, that opinion in Britain was preponderantly hostile to British membership of the Common Market.
