NotesNews: 19 March: The TUC special congress voted by five to four that there should be no more official strikes against the Industrial Relations Bill. Affiliated unions were advised not to register under the new law. Dissidents wanted sanctions, such as expulsion from the TUC, against any that did register. News: 21 March: As the debate on the Industrial Relations Bill entered its final week on the Commons Mr Eric Heffer called for a firm assurance that Labour, when returned to power, would repeal the Act. In a statement he said that the decisions of the Trades Union Congress last week were a defeat for the Government because the seven-point programme added up to a package of complete non-cooperation.
