NotesNews: 24 November: "Mr Davies, Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, said in the Commons that the Government would soon be announcing new measures "to sharpen the climate of competition within which private industry lives". He was speaking in the debate on the recently announced aid for Rolls-Royce. ... At one point there were angry exchanges between him and Mr Wilson, who intervened four times in quick succession in an attempt to discover whether £18m. of private backing for Rolls-Royce was indeed private or whether public companies were involved. .... The exchange ended in uproar when Mr Davies refused to give way to the Opposition leader on his fourth time of asking and Mr Wilson flopped back in his seat with a disgusted flip of the hand. ....
