NotesNews: 2 November: Proposals for a solution to the Middle East crisis were put forward by Home who said that any settlement made must be based on the inadmissibility of the acquisition of territory by war. He also emphasised that Britain could not support any political programme which would involve the disappearance of the state of Israel. News: 4 November: Golda Meir flew into London to see the Prime Minister. Home was able to explain to her why he chose to state publicly the new Government's policy on the Middle East a few days before her arrival, and to explain that it did not really differ from the policy of the previous Government.
