NotesNews: 21 October: President Pompidou assured President Kaunda of Zambia that he had forbidden the export to South Africa of French arms and equipment which could be used for anti-guerrilla warfare. This would apply to light and medium helicopters and light armoured vehicles which France had been selling to South Africa. Since the British Government imposed an embargo on arms to South Africa in 1964, France has become on of the most important suppliers and has delivered submarines, Mirage aircraft and helicopters, tanks and armoured cars, as well as electronic and other equipment.
