NotesNews: 27 August: The TUC declared that the Government was adopting a "misguided and dangerous course of action" in its economic policy. The council heard a report of the recent meeting between its economic committee and the Chancellor. Speaker after speaker reacted angrily at the Government's attempt to enforce wage restraint. News: 31 August: A record 33,000 people drove nose-to-tail through Woburn Abbey game park where a girl of five was mauled last week. With temperatures in the high seventies most drove with their windows down and some got out of their cars with lions only six feet away.
