Notes | Talks collapsed at successive mass meetings when the men voted to accept Ford's pay offer. At only one plant, the Swansea axle-manufacturing centre, did the vote go in favour of strike action. News: 17 Feb: Ford's main assembly plants at Dagenham, Halewood and Langley were threatened with closure with 20,000 men laid off unless the Swansea strikers returned to work within the next forty-eight hours. In spite of its labour force only being 1,500 Swansea produces every axle used by the company and only two days worth of stock are held at the other plants. |
