NotesNews: 24 January: Ted Heath said he had dismissed Enoch Powell from the Shadow Cabinet because his statements on immigration did not agree with Conservative policy. Flour bombs and eggs were thrown at Enoch Powell when he arrived at St Andrews University to address a university Conservative Association dinner. About 150 people took part in the demonstration and there was a chorus of hissing and shouts of "Fascist, fascist".
