NotesNews: 19 January: Ted Heath condemned Enoch Powell's latest speech on immigration as "an example of man's inhumanity in a Christian, civilised society". Heath denounced Powell's view that anything done to help coloured people to remain in Britain was "positively harmful". News: 20 January: The dolphin that spent a weekend swimming up the Thames was on its way back to sea. News: 20 January: George Brown returns to London from his Middle East tour which was packed with incidents starting with his greeting to Israel's Prime Minister, Golda Meir, reportedly being "Hello sister - I've brought greetings from your friends." Asked what the reaction had been to his individual and informal approach to diplomacy, he answered: "I am what God made me; I don't propose to change at the age of 55."
