Notes News: Hundreds of millions of television viewers watched Neil Armstrong, Commander of
Apollo 11, become the first man to set foot on the moon. Apollo 11 splashed down safely in
the Pacific Ocean on 24th July. News: Two convicted Russian agents, Peter and Helen Kroger,
sentenced in Britain to 20 years, were exchanged for Gerald Brooke, a British lecturer who
had been caught distributing anti-Soviet literature in Moscow on behalf of an extreme
Russian emigré organisation. News: Reuters correspondent Anthony Grey, who was detained in
China, was set to be released in October 1969.
