NotesNews (13th May) Harold Wilson dropped Home Secretary James Callaghan from his inner cabinet after Callaghan had sided with the TUC in opposing reforms announced in Barbara Castle's White Paper 'In Place of Strife'. At least 100 MPs were rebelling and there had been an attempted coup by Labour left-wingers to topple Mr. Wilson. (Chronicle of the 20th Century).
