NotesNews (23rd Sept) Russia's Zond 5 spacecraft, an automated version of their 1967 manned Soyuz spacecraft, was recovered after a flight around the moon. This was the first recovery of a spacecraft from a lunar mission and the Russian success helped to advance the U.S. Apollo programme. (The Times Index, Sept-Oct 1968)
