NotesNews: 25 Oct: Sir Gerald denied that he was driving dangerously near a roundabout at Totton, Hampshire, on 21 May last year. He was convicted of the charge but after the defence introduced new evidence the Court of Appeal ordered a new trial. In his final speech to the jury, Sir Joseph Molony, QC for the Crown, said that the issue was one of mistaken identity, "but there were only two people in that car, the man, balding and with a great deal of hair on his face and the woman, blonde hair but not very long, Can you imagine anyone confusing these two?". Sir Gerald was asked to stand and turn his back to the jury. Sir Joseph asked if he was aware his whiskers were visible from the back. "Slightly", he replied, "but Mrs Mason had hari at the side of her face when she wore her wig." Sir Gerald Nabarro was acquitted of dangerous driving. At his first trial in January Sir Gerald was convicted and fined £250 but the Court of Appeal ordered a new trial.
